Erlösbeteiligung (Revenue Share)

In brief

A revenue share is a compensation model in which the seller receives an agreed share of the actual sales proceeds instead of a fixed price in advance. The amount of the payment is therefore only known after resale. In IT retirement, revenue share is an alternative to fixed-price buyback when companies want to share in the market result of their old devices.

Revenue share and fixed price compared

Feature Fixed-price buyback Revenue share
Payment Agreed price, independent of the later sale Share of the proceeds achieved, often minus agreed costs
Predictability High, amount is fixed in advance Lower, amount is only fixed after the sale
Market risk Borne by the buyer Shared by both sides
When Usually after inspection of the devices After resale, often in installments
Transparency Price list or offer Settlement of sales proceeds required

What to look out for with a revenue share

Related models are the Cashback model and the Buyback.

When buying, Second IT offers market-based prices based on database-supported price determination as well as CashBack options and employee sales. Which model fits your inventory is clarified by the offer.

Frequently asked questions about revenue share

Is a revenue share better than a fixed price?

That depends on your goals. A fixed price offers predictability. A revenue share can yield more in a good market situation, but also carries the risk of lower proceeds.

What does revenue share mean for IT hardware?

Revenue share is the English term for profit sharing of proceeds. The seller receives a share of the sales proceeds of the devices instead of a price set in advance.

How long does settlement take?

The contract governs that. Because settlement only takes place after resale, it usually takes longer than with a fixed-price buyback.

Which costs are deducted in a revenue share?

The contract determines that. Costs agreed in advance are often deducted from the sales proceeds before your share is calculated. Therefore clarify before signing which costs these are, over what period sales take place and how the proceeds are evidenced.

Who bears the market risk in a revenue share?

Both sides share it. If the sales proceeds turn out low, your share also falls. With a fixed-price buyback, by contrast, the buyer bears this risk and the amount is fixed in advance.
