ITAD stands for IT asset disposition – the secure, documented take-back and recovery of retired corporate IT. It covers collection, certified data erasure, buyback at market prices, refurbishment and remarketing, and the proper disposal of devices that can no longer be used. In German-speaking countries it is also called IT remarketing. Second IT handles every step from a single source – since its founding in 2011 in Schwäbisch Hall, around 1.8 million devices have been processed this way.
A project follows eight traceable steps: offer and buyback, collection, inspection at goods receipt, data erasure, audit and reports, repair and refurbishment, remarketing and proper disposal. To start, you send us a device list; you receive the offer within 48 hours on average. Our own logistics team collects the devices, and every device is recorded by serial number and erased in a certified process. You follow the status in the customer portal.
We take laptops, desktop PCs, monitors, smartphones, tablets, printers, servers and network equipment – from a single smartphone to an entire data centre. Working devices are refurbished and remarketed after data erasure; devices that can no longer be used are dismantled and sent to certified recycling. Storage media that cannot be erased are destroyed according to DIN 66399.
Second IT is certified to ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), ISO/IEC 27001 (information security) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) and is a certified waste management company. For data erasure we use Blancco erasure software; Blancco has named Second IT a Gold ITAD Partner. You can find all certificates on our Certificates page.
For every single device, you receive proof of the certified data erasure or the destruction of the storage medium. For disposed devices, recycling and disposal certificates document what happened to them – ideal for your CSR or ESG reporting. On request, we also confirm the savings achieved in an annual environmental report. This way you can provide information to data protection officers, internal audit and auditors at any time.
