With certified data erasure, the Blancco Drive Eraser software overwrites all storage areas on a data carrier so that the data cannot be recovered. It also detects hidden areas such as HPA and DCO, that is, areas of the hard drive that are invisible to the operating system, as well as redirected sectors. Blancco has been certified or recommended by more than 14 government agencies worldwide, including the BSI and NATO. For each individual device, you receive a digitally signed deletion certificate. It is associated with the device serial number and contains, among other things, the deletion duration, the used deletion algorithm, and the number of overwrites. This allows you to prove at any time during internal audits, to your data protection officer, or during an official inspection that the data on a specific device have been deleted in accordance with GDPR regulations. Additionally, we create reports and audit logs that transparently document the entire deletion process. If a data carrier cannot be technically deleted in a way that is tamper-proof, it is instead destroyed, and you receive a Certificate of destruction.
No, formatting or resetting is not sufficient for corporate devices because data can often be recovered with specialized software afterwards. With formatting, only the references to files are removed, not the content itself, and hidden areas such as HPA and DCO remain untouched. However, the GDPR requires that personal data be permanently deleted and that you can prove this. Second IT therefore uses a software-based deletion that completely overwrites all areas of HDDs and SSDs and excludes any reconstruction. As proof, you receive a deletion certificate for each device. A device that is self-deactivated does not provide this proof.
