Prüfbericht (Funktionstest)
In brief
A test report for IT devices documents the result of a functional test: which device was tested, which components were tested and which defects were found. It is created mainly during refurbishment and in the assessment of used hardware. For buyers and sellers, it provides a traceable basis for condition, classification and price.
What a test report contains
| Area | Typical details |
|---|---|
| Identification | Manufacturer, model, serial number |
| Equipment | Processor, memory, storage, display |
| Functional tests | Display, keyboard, ports, Wi-Fi, camera, speakers, drive |
| Wear parts | Battery condition, and for hard drives the S.M.A.R.T. values |
| Appearance and classification | Scratches, signs of wear, condition grade |
| Result | Finding, recommendation, date, inspecting body |
The more precise the report, the easier it is to compare devices and clarify later queries. It is important that every report is clearly assigned to a device via the serial number.
Test report, grading and erasure certificate
The test report records facts. The Grading summarizes them into a condition grade. An erasure certificate is something different: it proves the data erasure, not the function. For refurbished devices offered as refurbished both records belong together.
At Second IT, refurbishment begins with a device analysis and assessment, which includes a comprehensive test report. For repairs there is a test report with a repair recommendation, and every repair ends with documented functional tests. More on the Refurbishment. What is behind IT remarketing is explained in our article Old Laptops, New Perspectives.
Frequently asked questions about the test report
Why do I need a test report for used IT?
It shows the condition a device is in and which functions were tested. This creates clarity in assessment, purchase and complaints.
Is a test report the same as an erasure certificate?
No. The test report documents the function, the erasure certificate the data erasure. Both state the same serial number.
Who creates the test report?
As a rule, the refurbisher or service provider that tests and refurbishes the devices.
What is the difference between a test report and grading?
The test report records the facts, such as specifications, test results and defects. Grading summarizes these facts into a condition grade. The two complement each other but replace neither each other nor the erasure certificate.
What is checked in the functional test of a laptop?
Typically the display, keyboard, ports, Wi-Fi, camera, speakers and drive. In addition there are wear parts such as battery condition and, for hard drives, the S.M.A.R.T. values. The result is in the test report and is assigned to the device via the serial number.
